The Dare is the stage name of Harrison Patrick Smith, an American DJ, producer, and musician born March 19, 1996 in Los Angeles and raised near Seattle. After fronting the indie project Turtlenecked while at Lewis & Clark College, he relocated to New York City, where he moonlighted as a DJ hosting the Freakquencies party at Lower East Side dive bar Home Sweet Home while working as a substitute teacher. His 2022 breakout single Girls — inspired by the Rolling Stones's Some Girls — helped spearhead the indie sleaze revival with its electroclash-influenced dance-pop, acid synths, and provocative, satirical lyrics, landing on The New York Times' best songs of the year list. He went on to co-write and produce Guess with Charli XCX for her 2024 album Brat, which won the Grammy for Best Dance/Electronic Album in 2025.
