Alan Daniel Maman (born October 25, 1977), known professionally as the Alchemist, is an American hip hop producer, DJ, and rapper from Beverly Hills, California. He started out in the early 1990s as a rapper in the duo the Whooliganz alongside Scott Caan, mentored by DJ Muggs of Cypress Hill, before shifting to production in the late 1990s. Renowned for his sample-heavy, cinematic production style, he has worked extensively with Mobb Deep, Nas, Jadakiss, Prodigy, Action Bronson, Freddie Gibbs, Earl Sweatshirt, Westside Gunn, and Roc Marciano, among many others. He forms the duo Gangrene with Oh No and the duo Step Brothers with Evidence of Dilated Peoples, and co-composed the official score to Grand Theft Auto V in 2013. Widely regarded as one of the most influential and prolific producers in modern underground hip hop.
