Pioneering American hardcore punk band formed in 1976 in Hermosa Beach, California by guitarist Greg Ginn, the sole continuous member. Originally called Panic, Black Flag helped define the hardcore punk genre with their raw, aggressive sound and relentless DIY touring ethos. Their music blended the simplicity of early punk with atonal guitar work and frequent tempo shifts. Regarded as one of the most influential punk bands of all time, they helped establish underground independent record labels and inspired countless bands across punk, hardcore, and alternative rock. Notable vocalists have included Keith Morris, Ron Reyes, Dez Cadena, and Henry Rollins.
