Richard Melville Hall, known professionally as Moby, is an American musician, songwriter, DJ, and animal rights activist born September 11, 1965 in Harlem, New York City. After playing in several underground punk rock bands through the 1980s, he turned to electronic dance music, becoming one of the most important dance music figures of the early 1990s. His 1999 album Play became the biggest-selling electronica album of all time with over 12 million copies sold, and he has sold 20 million records worldwide. He is also a published author, photographer, and vegan activist.
