Dogs in a Pile
Asbury Park, US
jam band · funk · psychedelic rock · jazz fusion
Formed in Asbury Park, New Jersey, Dogs in a Pile merge funk, jazz, and rock and roll with psychedelia, presenting a completely original vibe built on kaleidoscopic soundscapes. The quintet — Jimmy Law (vocals, guitar), Brian Murray (vocals, guitar), Jeremy Kaplan (vocals, keys), Sam Lucid (vocals, bass), and Joe Babick (drums) — coalesced when Law and Babick began collaborating at a young age, later joined by Berklee College of Music students Lucid, Kaplan, and Murray. Named after a lyric in the Grateful Dead song "He's Gone," the band draws on improvisation influenced by the Dead, Phish, jazz, fusion, and classical music. Their devoted fan community is known as the Dog Pound.
