Pixies are an American alternative rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986. Founded by Black Francis (vocals, rhythm guitar), Joey Santiago (lead guitar), Kim Deal (bass, vocals), and David Lovering (drums), they helped define the alternative rock sound of the late 1980s and early 1990s with their pioneering loud-quiet-loud dynamics and blend of punk aggression with pop melodies. Their 1988 debut Surfer Rosa and 1989 follow-up Doolittle are considered landmark albums, with signature songs like "Where Is My Mind?" and "Debaser" influencing acts such as Nirvana, Radiohead, and the Smashing Pumpkins. After disbanding in 1993, they reunited in 2004 and have continued recording and touring, releasing their ninth album The Night the Zombies Came in 2024.
