American singer and songwriter born February 13, 1971 in Cincinnati, Ohio. Best known as the frontman and lyricist of indie rock band The National, recognized for his distinctive baritone voice. Studied graphic design at the University of Cincinnati before transitioning to music. Released debut solo album Serpentine Prison (2020) produced by Booker T. Jones, followed by Get Sunk (2025). Also formed the project EL VY with Brent Knopf, releasing Return to the Moon (2015). Has collaborated with Phoebe Bridgers, CHVRCHES, and Booker T. Jones among others.
