English experimental music group founded in 1982 by David Tibet (born David Michael Bunting). Tibet is the sole constant member, with numerous collaborators contributing over the decades. Early work drew from industrial music with abrasive tape loops and droning synthesizers, before shifting in the mid-1980s to a style Tibet calls "apocalyptic folk", blending folk music with industrial elements. Lyrics emphasize mystical Christianity, occultism, and literary traditions. One of the most influential acts in the neofolk and post-industrial scenes.
